Columbia University Drug Bust: Five Students Arrested

NEW YORK (GaeaTimes.com)- Five students of Columbia University were detained by New York authorities on Tuesday for being involved in a drug ring and selling illegal substances from the fraternity houses and dorms of the university campus. The five youths were taken into custody following a probe that was undertaken by cops in which the students sold a huge array of drugs that included cocaine, LSD, marijuana, ecstasy worth $11,000 to the undercover agents since the month of July when the investigation was initiated.

The investigation named ‘Operation Ivy League’ that was conducted from five months ultimately resulted in the raids in the Morningside Heights campus of the Columbia University followed by the arrest of the five students. Following the drug bust, the students were arraigned in the Manhattan Criminal Court on Tuesday afternoon and in the hearing, the judge ordered them to be held in custody in lieu of bail varying between $25,000 to $75,000. Along with the five students, around three people from outside the campus have also been arrested as they alleged supplied the students with the huge variety of drugs which was later sold in the fraternity houses of the Columbia University. The suppliers have been identified as Miron Sarzynski and his girlfriend, Megan Asper and another man Roberto Lagares, New York police authorities revealed.

While reacting to the drug bust in the Columbia University campus, Kevin Shollenberger who is the dean of the school’s student affairs told media outlets that the university authorities are “taking this matter very seriously.” In the meanwhile, all the arrested students have reiterated that violent traffickers provided them the drugs while pleading not guilty.
