More arrests as protesters upset NC board meeting

RALEIGH, N.C. — A group of protesters upset over a North Carolina school board’s decision to eliminate a busing policy focused on diversity has been arrested for disrupting the board’s meeting.

The protesters held hands, locked arms and chanted Tuesday against a policy they say will resegregate Wake County schools. They refused to leave the podium and more than a dozen officers intervened.

Before the meeting, the head of North Carolina’s NAACP chapter was one of three people arrested. The Rev. William Barber had been banned from the gathering because of a trespassing arrest at a board meeting last month.

Earlier in the day, the NAACP led a rally with about 1,000 protesters marching through North Carolina’s capital.
