Chicago man charged in Calif. kidnapping case
ALHAMBRA, Calif. — Los Angeles County prosecutors say a Chicago man has been charged with kidnapping and attempting to murder a 21-year-old woman who authorities say was left for dead after her father had agreed to pay a ransom for her return.
Prosecutors say 24-year-old DeQiang Song was charged Monday in last Thursday’s attack.
Prosecutors say Song knew the woman through a mutual friend. He is accused of tying up the woman, then calling her father and demanding money.
While haggling over the amount, authorities say Song choked the woman and sliced her throat, then left her for dead.
Authorities say Song was arrested when he went to meet the father to pick up the money.
If convicted, Song could face life in prison. He’s scheduled to be arraigned Sept. 29. It was unknown Monday if Song had an attorney.
