Army contractor tells NY judge he accepted cash

NEW YORK — A man who worked for a U.S. Army contractor in Afghanistan has pleaded guilty to criminal charges in New York, admitting that he accepted $200,000 in cash payments to steer contracts to subcontractors.

Daniel Freeman entered the plea to charges of receiving gratuities and money laundering in federal court in Manhattan on Thursday.

The 38-year-old man told a magistrate judge that he accepted the payments between January 2007 and May 2009 in exchange for passing along contracts to provide services to the Army in Afghanistan.

As part of a plea deal, Freeman agreed not to appeal any sentence up to five years and three months in prison. Sentencing was tentatively set for Nov. 18.
