More Stryker soldiers charged in Afghan plot

SEATTLE — Seven more soldiers from a Washington state-based Stryker brigade have been changed in connection with a conspiracy to kill Afghan civilians.

The Seattle Times reports that in addition to the five soldiers from Joint Base Lewis-McChord charged with murder in June, charges have been filed against seven others. The charges include aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, impeding an investigation, unlawfully striking another soldier and conspiracy to commit assault and battery.

The Army also has released additional charges against the five original soldiers, including impeding an investigation, conspiracy and using a controlled substance.

All the soldiers served with the 2nd Battalion 1st Infantry Regiment, which is part of the 5th Stryker Bridge, 2nd Infantry Division that went to Afghanistan in the summer of 2009.
