NORTH GEORGIA (GaeaTimes.com)- Kristi Cornwell, a probation officer disappeared mysteriously in August 2009. Her boyfriend said that she was on cell phone with him when he overheard some struggle after she told him that she feels a car is following her. After a year of search, her brother Richard Cornwell found her remains in Georgia with the help of law enforcement officials. John Bankhead, the spokesperson of Georgia Bureau of Investigation said that the medical officials used her dental records to identify her body.
The law enforcement suspected James Scott Carringer as the cell phone records showed that he was present near the area when Kristi Cornwell disappeared. However, the prime suspect killed himself during a standoff with the Atlanta Police last year. GBI Director Vernon Keenan told that Richard Cornwell had been searching for her sister since the day she disappeared and he even spent hours searching for her in the remote places of Union County. Police said that her body had been burnt and hence they could not determine the cause of her death. Richard Cornwell found her sister’s body on Saturday and at the press conference he said that her family is thankful to the authorities as Kristi Cornwell will get the proper funeral that she deserves.
Kristi Cornwell’s mother, Jo Ann Cornwell was all in tears when she said that her family never wanted things to end in this way. However, she also added that her daughter is in heaven now and they would be able to see her again. On the other hand, Vernon Keenan told that though the prime suspect has died yet the case would remain an open and active investigation.
