Philly tow truck driver charged with killing rival
PHILADELPHIA — A Philadelphia tow truck driver is accused of running over another driver, killing him, in a dispute over towing territory.
Police say 25-year-old Glen McDaniel ran over 30-year-old Ray Santiago early Sunday in the parking lot of a bar in the Kensington neighborhood.
Turf wars over towing are nothing new in Philadelphia. The slaying comes months after a tow operator allegedly shot a rival at an accident scene.
Police try to rotate tow jobs, unless someone is already on site. Critics say that leaves rivals to race to car crashes to claim jobs.
McDaniel is charged with murder and related charges. It’s not clear if he has an attorney.
