Calif couple could face 10-year sentence for bribe

LOS ANGELES — A West Hollywood couple could face 10 years in federal prison for bribing a Thai official so they could run the Bangkok International Film Festival.

Movie producers Gerald and Patricia Green are scheduled to be sentenced Thursday afternoon. They were convicted last fall of conspiracy, money laundering and violating the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act.

Federal prosecutors say the Greens paid the former Thai head of tourism nearly $2 million for contracts to run the 2007 festival and a related tour that generated some $13.5 million in revenue.

Gerald Green’s credits include “Salvador” and “Rescue Dawn.” His wife produced “Diamonds,” a comedy starring Kirk Douglas.

Prosecutors want them to get a decade each behind bars while the defense is requesting home detention
