Alleged Russian spies to go to NYC to face charges

BOSTON — A Boston-area couple accused of being secret agents for the Russian government have waived their right to identity and detention hearings in Boston and will go to New York to answer the spy charges.

Donald Heathfield and his wife, Tracey Lee Ann Foley, of Cambridge, Mass., are among 11 people arrested last month in a probe of what prosecutors say was a long-term Russian effort to glean sensitive U.S. information.

At a hearing Wednesday, they both waived their rights to local hearings. A judge said the issue of detention would be determined in New York.

Both are charged with conspiracy to act as an unregistered agent of a foreign government and conspiracy to commit money laundering.

Their attorneys have denied the charges against them.
