Ex-Marines, knitter among Blagojevich jurors
CHICAGO — A former Marine injured serving in the Middle East and a voracious reader of knitting magazines are among the jurors in former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich’s corruption trial.
The 12 jurors and six alternates are listening to what is likely to be months of sometimes sensational testimony.
The jury incudes several former servicemen.
Attorney Michael Helfand says observers are usually left extrapolating how jurors might vote based on stereotypes. For instance, prosecutors might think ex-servicemen might be sticklers for rules and so favor their side.
Blagojevich is accused of scheming to profit from his power to fill the U.S. Senate seat vacated by President Barack Obama. He has pleaded not guilty to 24 counts that include attempted extortion and bribery.
