Chicago police officer killed in city’s South Side
CHICAGO — A Chicago police officer was shot and killed along with a suspect in an apparent robbery attempt on the city’s South Side, authorities said.
The off-duty officer was riding a motorcycle around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday when he was approached by several people who were apparently trying to rob him, police said.
There was an exchange of gunfire in which the officer, a three-year veteran of the department, was killed.
One suspect was also fatally shot and another was injured and taken into custody, news affairs police officer Amina Greer said. Charges are pending against the injured suspect, Greer said.
Greer said police were also investigating whether others were involved in the shooting.
The officer’s name was not immediately released but a police news release said he was a 30-year-old who was single with no children.
