No charges for UCLA student who faked abduction

GLENDALE, Calif. — California police say they will not file criminal charges against a woman who faked her own kidnapping to avoid telling her parents that she had dropped out of the University of California, Los Angeles two years ago.

Sgt. Tom Lorenz said Friday the Glendale city attorney will decide whether to file a civil claim against Nancy Salas for the cost of the extensive search.

Lorenz says the city might determine it’s not cost effective to try to recoup expenses because Salas’ father is unemployed and her mother cleans houses for a living.
