Murder charge filed in shooting of Minn. officer

ST. PAUL, Minn. — Prosecutors have charged a St. Paul man with aiding and abetting murder in the shooting death of a Maplewood police officer.

The Ramsey County attorney’s office charged 21-year-old Joshua Michael Martin on Monday with aiding and abetting second-degree intentional murder in the Saturday death of Maplewood Police Sgt. Joseph Bergeron.

Martin also was charged with kidnapping in connection to a carjacking earlier that day. Bergeron was killed while investigating the carjacking.

A criminal complaint says Martin told police his friend, 21-year-old Jason Jones, of St. Paul, shot Bergeron. Police shot and killed Jones later during a manhunt.

Martin is scheduled to make his first court appearance Monday afternoon.
