Sheriff: 282 arrested in Calif. border gang sweep
SAN DIEGO — Sheriff’s officials say more than 280 people have been arrested in a gang sweep designed to target drug and human smuggling activities at the U.S.-Mexican border.
San Diego County Sheriff Bill Gore said Monday 24 documented gang members and eight gang associates have been booked for investigation of various offenses, including drug trafficking, human smuggling and parole and probation violations.
About 165 pounds of marijuana, 21 pounds of methamphetamine, six pounds of cocaine, heroin and weapons were seized.
