NY teen charged with threatening school massacre
NEW YORK — Police say a 17-year-old boy on New York’s Long Island threatened to go on a shooting spree at his former school on the anniversary of the Columbine (KAHL’-uhm-byn) High massacre.
Nathan Myres, of North Massapequa (mass-uh-PEE’-kwuh), was arraigned Saturday on a charge of making a terroristic threat.
He had attended Plainedge High School until earlier this year, when he transferred to a special needs program.
Nassau County police began investigating after a rumor began rippling through school that an ex-pupil was planning an attack.
Detective Lt. Kevin Smith says police haven’t found any weapons and it is possible the teen was just trying to scare people.
Myres remained in custody Saturday. His bail was set at $25,0000.
It was unclear when he would get a permanent lawyer.
