Charges filed against Utah man in kidnapping case

SALT LAKE CITY — A 31-year-old man who allegedly held his girlfriend against her will in a Utah apartment for three weeks has been charged.

Anthony G. Whyms faces one count of aggravated kidnapping and three counts of aggravated sexual assault. All are first-degree felonies. He also faces a count of second-degree felony aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury to another.

Charges filed in state court Thursday allege Whyms beat the woman, used tape to bind her wrists and ankles and forced her to have sex. The Unified Police Department said she escaped the Millcreek apartment Sunday.

Court records did not list an attorney for Whyms. A phone listing for him could not be found.

He’s being held without bail in the Salt Lake County jail.
