Police: 3 killed in NW Pakistan suicide attack

ISLAMABAD — Police say at least three people have been killed and 11 wounded in a suicide bombing in northwestern Pakistan.

District police Chief Chaman Khan says the attacker apparently targeted Shiite Muslims near a gas station in the town of Hangu.

He says the victims of Friday’s attack are being taken to a nearby hospital.

Suicide attackers have struck numerous times in Pakistan’s northwest, and sectarian attacks pitting Sunni Muslims against minority Shiites also are common.

Hangu is near Pakistan’s tribal regions, a lawless stretch of territory along the Afghan border where al-Qaida and Taliban fighters have flourished.
