NYPD sodomy accuser says he worries for his safety

NEW YORK — The man who accused a New York policeman of sodomizing him with a baton says he’s worried about his safety after the officer’s acquittal.

Michael Mineo maintains that Officer Richard Kern assaulted him after a chase for lighting marijuana in public and that two other officers covered it up. The three officers were acquitted of all charges Monday.

Mineo says his own credibility has nothing to do with the case. He spoke at a news conference with the Rev. Al Sharpton, who says the verdict was a travesty.

The civil rights activist says he will go to lawmakers and press them for changes on how such investigations are handled.
