Driver guilty of killing Mo. fan at Phillies park

PHILADELPHIA — A man who boasted of exploits with booze and fast cars has pleaded guilty to running over two Missouri baseball fans who had just attended a Philadelphia Phillies game, killing one of them.

Prosecutors say South Philadelphia resident Joseph Genovese Jr. ran a red light while intoxicated and struck St. Louis schoolteachers Cindy Grassi and Sandra Wacker outside a Phillies-Cardinals game at Citizens Bank Park in July 2008.

Grassi died. Wacker was seriously injured. The friends had traveled to a different ballpark each summer to watch the Cardinals play.

Genovese pleaded guilty Tuesday to charges including aggravated assault by vehicle and homicide by vehicle while driving under the influence. The 20-year-old faces up to 13 1/2 to 27 years in prison at sentencing in April.

His MySpace page bragged about driving 120 mph on a drag-racing strip near the ballpark.
