Dems want Gov. Jindal to file ‘Who Dat’ lawsuit
BATON ROUGE, La. — Louisiana Democrats want Republican Gov. Bobby Jindal to get into the “Who Dat” fray with the NFL.
The Democrats’ governing body Saturday called on Jindal to defend the rights of Louisiana citizens to use the term “Who Dat” and the New Orleans Saints’ fleur-de-lis symbol.
Some T-shirt makers have received cease-and-desist letters from the NFL demanding they stop selling shirts with the traditional cheer of Saints fans. The NFL claims the shirts infringe on a trademark it owns.
The issue has outraged residents, including members of the state’s congressional delegation, who say it’s ridiculous for the NFL to claim ownership of a saying that predates the Saints.
Jindal’s office didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment Saturday.
