Man sought after body of missing police chief’s daughter is found in NC self-storage unit

Police chief’s daughter found dead in NC; 1 sought

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police in North Carolina’s biggest city say they’re seeking a registered sex offender after the body of a missing police chief’s daughter was found in a self-storage unit.

Charlotte Mecklenburg police, in a statement Sunday, said the body of 23-year-old Valerie Hamilton was found the night before and they are seeking 34-year-old Michael Neal Harvey. Hamilton was the daughter of Concord Chief Merl Hamilton.

Police say they think Harvey is the man spotted on surveillance video leaving a Charlotte restaurant with Valerie Hamilton the last time she was seen early Wednesday.

Authorities told local newspapers that Harvey was convicted of a sex offense in New York and arrest records show he has been in North Carolina for at least five years.
