Agency: gunman kills 6, injures others in Slovakia

BRATISLAVA, Slovakia — A gunman has killed six people and injured at least 14 others in suburban Bratislava, the Slovak news agency reported Monday.

TASR said the shooting happened on the streets of Devinska Nova Ves, on the outskirts of the Slovak capital, in the middle of the morning. It said the man, who has not been identified, opened fire on passers-by and shot through windows into buildings.

TASR said the dead are four women and two men and quoted Dana Kamenicka, a Bratislava hospital spokeswoman, as saying that a 3-year-old child is among the injured.

The Slovak newspaper Pravda put the number of injured at 19 but did not cite any official sources.

Emergency crews are on the scene and authorities are urging people to stay indoors. The fate of the gunman is unclear.

Further details were not immediately available. Police have made no comment.
