Castle burglary on Swedish royal grounds
STOCKHOLM — Swedish police says a gang of thieves have broken into the Chinese Pavilion, a UNESCO world heritage site located near the royal family’s residence at Drottningholm Palace in Stockholm.
Police spokeswoman Diana Sundin says the burglars staged Friday’s burglary in just six minutes, getting away with an unknown haul just after security guards had made their rounds.
Sundin says there are no suspects in the case and that the stolen goods have yet to be identified.
The Chinese Pavilion is located near the royal family’s permanent residence in the Drottningholm Palace park in western Stockholm. The wooden building was a birthday gift from King Adolf Fredrik to Queen Lovisa Ulrika in 1753. It contains collections of chinoiserie.
