Son of Buffalo, NY, mayor charged with shoplifting

BUFFALO, N.Y. — The teenage son of Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown has been charged with trying to steal less than $60 in merchandise from a retail store.

Brown confirmed Monday that his 19-year-old son, Byron Brown III, was arrested last Saturday night and charged with petit larceny.

Police say the younger Brown tried to leave an A.J. Wright store with electronic equipment and clothing in the city after an acquaintance who was working the checkout line apparently didn’t ring up all the items. The store clerk was also charged.

The mayor’s son was issued an appearance ticket and is due in court on Monday.

The younger Brown got into trouble in 2007 when he crashed the family’s sport utility vehicle into several parked cars. He pleaded guilty to unlicensed driving and leaving the scene of an accident.
