Fifth suspect charged in Rwandan exile shooting

JOHANNESBURG — A court has charged a fifth suspect in the shooting and wounding of an exiled Rwandan general living in South Africa.

A 29-year-old Rwandan-born man appeared in the Johannesburg court Thursday, charged with murder conspiracy and possessing stolen property.

Four other men are being held to reappear in court next month in the wounding of Gen. Kayumba Nyamwasa, a former Rwandan army chief of staff, at his Johannesburg home in June.

Nyamwasa had fled his homeland in February and sought asylum in South Africa. Rwanda demanded his extradition and has denied involvement in last month’s shooting.
