Jury to announce verdict in Philly cop killing

PHILADELPHIA — A Philadelphia jury has reached a verdict in the trial of two men charged in the fatal shooting of a city police officer.

The verdict is expected to be read Wednesday afternoon.

Jurors began deliberating Monday after four weeks of testimony in the trial of 35-year-old Eric Floyd and 41-year-old Levon Warner.

They could face the death penalty if convicted of first-degree murder in the May 2008 shooting death of Sgt. Stephen Liczbinski (liz-BIN’-skee) following a bank robbery.

Authorities say Floyd and Warner were in the getaway car when a third man, Howard Cain, got out and shot the officer. Cain later died in a shootout with police.

The defense says Warner and Floyd had no intention of killing the officer.
