Browns’ Shaun Rogers reaches deal on gun charge

CLEVELAND — Cleveland Browns nose tackle Shaun Rogers has reached an agreement with prosecutors that could dismiss charges that he tried to carry a gun through airport security in April.

Prosecutors in Cleveland say when Rogers appears in court Thursday, he’ll agree to meet with a diversion officer and do volunteer service over the next year.

The case against Rogers will be dismissed if he completes the diversion program, including 10 hours in a gun-class.

Police said Rogers tried to carry a semiautomatic handgun through airport security in a carry-on bag.

The 31-year-old apologized to fans and his team, saying he forgot the gun was in his bag. He also met with Browns president Mike Holmgren to express his remorse.

Rogers’ attorney did not return calls on Wednesday.
