LOS ANGELES (GaeaTimes.com)- Leslie Van Houten will be facing the parole board for the 19th time today with a new lawyer and also with some new case laws that might get her a release this time. The former member of Charles Manson’s “Family” Leslie Van Houten was convicted by the court for the murder of Leno and Rosemary LaBianca. Leslie Van Houten had last faced the parole board back in 2007 when her plea for the parole was rejected by the board.
Leslie Van Houten now has a new lawyer to forward her case in front of the parole board this time. Brandie Devall, the new lawyer has said to media sources that she would refer to the rulings given by the California Supreme Court in 2008 and 2009 that has brought certain changes to the law guiding the standards of parole. Brandie Devall has said that she would refer to the case of convicted criminal Sandra Lawrence who was released on parole after 23 years of prison term. The court at that time as the lawyer mentions has held that the parole board cannot reject the parole plea by convict only based on the crime committed by him/her long ago. The parole must have the evidence that the prisoner’s release might put the safety of common public in danger. According to Brandie Devall the ruling was also upheld by the federal court.
60-year-old Leslie Van Houten has been serving her term at the California Institution for Women at Frontera. As per reports, Leslie Van Houten has shown positive psychological changes during her stay in the prison and also is an active member of the self-help groups in the prison.
