SAfrica: American shot and robbed in Johannesburg

JOHANNESBURG — A spokeswoman for South African police says a 35-year old American man has been shot during a robbery in Johannesburg.

Brig. Sally De Beers says four people assaulted the American late Wednesday in Johannesburg’s affluent Sandton area. She identified the victim as David James Bueche, but did not have details of his hometown.

De Beers says Bueche has a gunshot wound to his torso and is in the hospital in a stable condition.

She says the victim flew into Johannesburg from Los Angeles on Wednesday, and told the investigators he was not in the country for the World Cup.
