200 march over arrest of Pittsburgh arts student

PITTSBURGH — Protesters in Pittsburgh are calling for prosecution of police officers involved earlier this year in the arrest of a teenage arts student who says he was beaten.

Eighteen-year-old Jordan Miles, who is black, said he believed the white officers assumed he was a troublemaker when they arrested him Jan. 12. Miles attends Creative and Performing Arts High School.

About 200 protesters marched Saturday in the city, alleging police brutality. The mayor’s office has not yet released a review of the matter pending completion of an FBI probe.

The three officers have been suspended with pay during an internal investigation. They said Miles was acting suspiciously and they thought he might have a gun.

A district judge later dismissed charges against Miles that included resisting arrest.
