Speed Channel show host caught in CA fraud sting
SANTA ANA, Calif. — Prosecutors in California have charged 53 mechanics with defrauding auto shop customers, including the host of the Speed Channel reality show “Chop Cut Rebuild.”
Richard Evans was among those arrested Wednesday and Thursday and charged with felony insurance fraud after a sting operation. Evans was released on bail.
Officials say the probe consisted of 152 undercover operations at Orange County shops from January to May. Investigators asked the shops if they could repair car damage using fraudulent insurance claims.
It was unclear if Evans had retained an attorney. A message left at his business was not immediately returned Thursday.
