Former ClearOne CEO sentenced to 4 years in prison

SALT LAKE CITY — The former chief executive of ClearOne Communications Inc. has been sentenced to four years in federal prison for falsifying company revenue.

Frances Flood was sentenced Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Salt Lake City on nine felony convictions including conspiracy, making false statements, securities fraud and perjury.

A jury last year found Flood guilty year of cooking the company’s books to hit quarterly earnings targets. Prosecutors say she shipped millions of dollars of video and audio conferencing equipment to distributors without payment, then booked it as sales.

Judge Dee Benson says he was puzzled that Flood never admitted wrongdoing. On Wednesday, Flood tearfully told the judge only that she had made some poor decisions.

She fought the convictions for 14 months.
