Israeli police to question ex-PM on bribe case
JERUSALEM — The spokesman for Ehud Olmert says police are about to question the former Israeli prime minister on corruption charges.
Amir Dan says police have asked Olmert to appear at its fraud squad on Tuesday morning for questioning related to a multimillion-dollar real estate bribery scandal that has riveted Israel.
Olmert has denied all the allegations against him, calling them a “witch hunt.” He says he never accepted a bribe during his three-decade-long political career.
The questioning marks the first time Olmert will appear before police since he stepped down from office amid other corruption allegations last year.
Olmert is currently standing trial on charges of accepting illicit funds from an American supporter and double-billing Jewish groups for trips abroad.
