‘Clark Rockefeller’ appealing Mass. sentence

BOSTON — A German man who called himself Clark Rockefeller and who spun fantastic stories about his past is asking an appeals panel to reduce his sentence for the kidnapping of his 7-year-old daughter.

A lawyer for Christian Karl Gerhartsreiter (GAYR’-hahrtz-ry-tur) argued Tuesday that his client should serve two years or less in prison. The attorney, Timothy Bradl, says advisory state sentencing guidelines call for probation to two years in parental kidnapping cases.

Gerhartsreiter was sentenced to four to five years for kidnapping his daughter in Boston in 2008. They were found in Baltimore six days later and the girl was unhurt.

Prosecutor David Deakin said the sentence Gerhartsreiter received was appropriate, given the suffering he caused the girl’s mother.
