Ohio officer loses appeal in pregnant woman case

CANTON, Ohio — The U.S. Supreme Court has rejected an appeal by a former Ohio police officer convicted of killing his pregnant girlfriend and their unborn daughter.

Lawyers for Bobby Cutts Jr. filed with the nation’s highest court an appeal saying he didn’t get a fair trial and the case should’ve been moved because of publicity.

The court declined to hear the case Monday and didn’t comment.

Stark County assistant prosecutor Ronald Mark Caldwell says he’s happy the appeals process has ended.

The 32-year-old Cutts is a former Canton patrolman. He’s serving a life sentence for the 2007 killings of Jessie Davis and the nearly full-term fetus she was carrying.

Thousands of volunteers helped search for Davis before her body was found dumped in a park.
