Lawyer: Police shot man whose hands were in air
LOS ANGELES — An attorney says she saw police fatally shoot a Southern California robbery suspect whose hands were in the air.
Lawyer Frances Prizzia said Wednesday she had an unobstructed view of Lejoy Grissom’s hands when Culver City police shot him outside a doughnut shop.
Grissom was shot three times Sunday after officers ordered him out of a car. Authorities say he was suspected of robbing a nearby electronics store.
Lt. Dave Dolson of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, which is investigating, says the shooting appears justified because officers thought Grissom was reaching for a weapon.
Prizzia, a criminal defense attorney, says she does not represent anyone involved in the incident.
