Fresno, Calif, police arrest 108 in gang crackdown

FRESNO, Calif. — More than 100 suspects are facing charges since police in Fresno, Calif., started a crackdown on gangs this week.

After three people were killed in separate shootings over the weekend, Police Chief Jerry Dyer ordered officers to start looking for guns and drugs in a Fresno neighborhood known for gang activity.

Police say 108 people have been arrested in the sweeps, including 55 on felony charges, and six search warrants have been served.

The sweeps come after one man died Saturday and two people were shot to death Sunday, including a 16-year-old boy who was found with an AK-47 assault rifle.

With the weekend killings, the number of homicides in Fresno so far this year stands at 20.
