Charges filed in finger-mangling Colo. iPad theft
DENVER — Prosecutors in Denver have formally filed charges against a man suspected of mangling a shopper’s finger while stealing an iPad.
The Denver district attorney’s office said Wednesday that 20-year-old Brandon Darnell Smith faces charges of robbery and assault.
Smith hasn’t entered a plea. He’s being held under $200,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in court Friday. It’s unclear whether he has an attorney.
Smith is accused of yanking the shopping bag from 59-year-old Bill Jordan after he left the Apple Store at a Denver mall April 22.
A cord from the bag was wrapped around Jordan’s left hand and got caught on his left pinky finger. Doctors amputated two-thirds of Jordan’s finger because the flesh was stripped to the bone.
