Teenager arraigned in NY police station shooting
COOPERSTOWN, N.Y. — A teenager accused of shooting a high school classmate in the foyer of a New York police station near baseball’s Hall of Fame has been arraigned on attempted murder charges.
Anthony Pacherille was arraigned in his hospital bed Friday as he recovered from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Authorities say the 16-year-old armed himself with his father’s rifle and then chased another 16-year-old boy from a park near the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown. They say he wounded the other teen before shooting himself in the chin.
Otsego (aht-SEE’-goh) County District Attorney John Muehl says a grand jury is considering whether to charge the teen with a hate crime.
Pacherille is white. The other teen is black; he has recovered from his injuries.
Pacherille’s lawyer says he needs more time to get “up to speed” on the case.
