Police kill 2 suspecetd suicide bombers in NW

PESHAWAR, Pakistan — Police say they have killed two suspected suicide bombers after a shootout in northwestern Pakistan.

Senior police official Liaquat Ali says the men were killed on the outskirts of Peshawar on Tuesday.

He says one of the militants was wearing a suicide jacket.

Ali says police raided the militant hide-out on a tip that some suicide bombers were hiding in the area of Mittani.

The battle cames a day after militants detonated a car bomb near the U.S. consulate in Peshawar, killing eight people and wounding 33 others.

Also Monday, a suicide bomber killed 45 people at a rally by a secular political party in the Khyber-Pakhtoonkhwa province of which Peshawar is the capital.
