Calif man accused of killing mom not fit for trial

SAN DIEGO — A California man accused of fatally beating his mother, cutting off her arm and putting part of her skull in the refrigerator has been found mentally incompetent to stand trial.

A San Diego County judge reviewed a doctor’s evaluation of Bryan Chenhua Chang on Monday and ruled the 28-year-old did not understand the murder charge he faces.

Chang is being held without bail and will be sent to a state mental hospital until he is fit for trial.

Sherry Chu Chang’s body was found in January at her home. Detectives traced a bloody fingerprint back to her son, who was arrested two days later.

Prosecutors say the two might have had a disagreement about money.
