More than 20 hit in rash of Utah BB gun shootings

SALT LAKE CITY — Police say more than 20 people have been hit in a rash of drive-by BB gun shootings in the suburbs around Salt Lake City.

The shootings over the last two weeks appear to be random. Police say those targeted include pedestrians, people waiting at bus stops and a bicyclist riding home from work.

No one has been seriously injured but BBs were lodged beneath the skin of several victims.

West Valley City has investigated 16 shootings so far, including five on Thursday. In South Salt Lake, four people were shot in less than two hours on Tuesday.

Investigators say the shooters are in a car and appear to be using a high-powered, compressed-air BB gun.

No one’s been arrested. Although descriptions vary, the suspects are most-often said to be young men.
