Closing statements near in trial over Bronco death
DENVER — Jurors hearing the case against a man accused of killing Denver Broncos cornerback Darrent Williams could soon hear closing statements, a day after the defendant declined to testify.
Prosecutors wrapping up their case against Willie Clark are expected to call two final witnesses Tuesday before attorneys sum up their case and jurors begin deliberating.
Williams was in a limousine with friends when he was shot on New Year’s Day 2007. They had just left a nightclub where prosecutors say Williams’ group got into an altercation with a group that included Clark, a suspected gang member. Prosecutors say the altercation started inside the nightclub when a member of the Broncos players’ entourage sprayed champagne on revelers celebrating the new year.
