Bail hearing for father of NY terror plot suspect
NEW YORK — The father of a Colorado airport van driver accused of plotting to attack New York City with homemade bombs will have a bail hearing in his obstruction case.
FBI agents arrested Mohammed Wali Zazi (ZAH’-zee) earlier this month at his home near Denver. He’s accused of trying to get rid of chemicals and other evidence. He is scheduled to appear Wednesday afternoon in Brooklyn federal court.
The government alleges his son, Najibullah (nah-jee-BOO’-lah) Zazi, and others bought beauty supplies to make peroxide-based bombs. It says he tried to mix the explosives in a Colorado hotel room and then drove to New York.
Authorities call Najibullah Zazi an al-Qaida associate.
Both father and son have pleaded not guilty.
