CA man who helped put body in cement gets 9 years
SAN DIEGO — A San Diego man who pleaded guilty to helping encase the body of an 80-year-old man in cement and living off the victim’s savings and credit cards has been sentenced to nine years in state prison.
Prosecutors say 20-year-old Arlo Elizarraraz was sentenced Thursday in San Diego. He pleaded guilty in September to 55 felony counts, including being an accessory after a murder, theft from an elder, and possession of stolen property.
His co-defendant, 41-year-old Thomas Brooks, is charged with killing Edward Andrews, of Hemet, after befriending him.
Prosecutors allege that after Brooks killed Andrews, Elizarraraz helped him encase Andrews’ body in a concrete orb. The orb was used as the centerpiece of a backyard rock garden belonging to Brooks’ landlord.
Brooks is scheduled to be arraigned in Superior Court on March 22.
