Prosecutor: Kidnap victim nixes contact with pair
PLACERVILLE, Calif. — A prosecutor says a Northern California woman who was raped, kidnapped and held for 18 years is refusing to have contact with the couple charged in the case and their lawyers.
El Dorado County District Attorney Vern Pierson filed court papers Thursday opposing efforts by attorneys for Phillip and Nancy Garrido to contact Jaycee Dugard.
Pierson says the couple is trying control Dugard through lawyers and the news media.
In the court filing, Pierson described an alleged plan by Phillip Garrido to stay in contact with Dugard if he was ever arrested.
Dugard has told prosecutors that Garrido instructed her to request an attorney who could communicate directly with his lawyer.
