Afghan police repel suicide attack in south

KANDAHAR, Afghanistan — Police say two suicide bombers attacked a police station in southern Afghanistan, but were repelled before they could set off their explosives.

The deputy provincial police chief, Ghulam Jalanai Farahi, says officers opened fire on the two attackers Monday as they advanced on the police headquarters in Qalat city, the capital of Zabul province. One officer was wounded in the firefight.

The first attacker was fatally shot and the second escaped during the fighting. Farahi says security forces are searching for him in the city.
