DA eyes motive for speaker’s NYC death: A suicide?
NEW YORK — The man accused of killing motivational speaker Jeffrey Locker has always said Locker asked for help committing suicide. Now Manhattan prosecutors and a defense lawyer say evidence is mounting to support Kenneth Minor’s claim.
Defense lawyer Daniel Gotlin asked a court Wednesday to tell prosecutors to pursue lesser charges against Minor. The 29-year-old is charged with murder.
Prosecutors say they’re still investigating and haven’t drawn any new conclusions about Locker’s death. But they said in a letter last month that the debt-ridden Locker bought numerous insurance policies and was researching funeral arrangements shortly before he died.
Locker was found stabbed to death July 16 in his car in East Harlem.
