Prosecutors to wrap case in abortion doc’s slaying
WICHITA, Kan. — Prosecutors are wrapping up their murder case against the man charged with fatally shooting a Kansas abortion provider at his Wichita church.
The state’s case against Scott Roeder (ROH’-dur) is expected to rest Wednesday afternoon. Defense attorneys are to begin presenting their case Thursday.
The 51-year-old Kansas City, Mo., man is charged with first-degree murder and aggravated assault in the May 31 shooting of Dr. George Tiller.
Witnesses have so far offered few revelations from the stand. Much of the testimony is largely seen as a for-the-record recitation of facts in the case because Roeder has publicly confessed to killing Tiller.
But his trial has drawn militant abortion opponents and abortion rights supporters from across the nation to Wichita.
