Ex-cop to speak at Drew Peterson ‘hearsay’ hearing

JOLIET, Ill. — The lead Illinois investigator who first looked into the death of Drew Peterson’s third wife is expected to explain why it was initially ruled an accident.

Retired Illinois State Police Sgt. Patrick Collins is scheduled to resume testifying Friday at a hearing meant to determine what “hearsay” evidence prosecutors can use during Peterson’s murder trial.

Peterson, a former Bolingbrook police officer, has pleaded not guilty in the death of Kathleen Savio. Her lifeless body was found in a dry bathtub in her home in 2004.

Officials exhumed her body and ruled the death a homicide after Peterson’s fourth wife, Stacy Peterson, disappeared in 2007. Drew Peterson has not been charged in her disappearance, but authorities say he is the only suspect.
